Director of travel films, Brandon Li has uploaded a video where he talks about his latest production dedicated to Morocco. Entitled “Morocco Arise”, this 8-minute film was created out of passion. “I didn’t have a client, I wasn’t doing an advertising campaign. I simply started because I always wanted to go to Morocco, my dream destination for several years,” he said.

“I spent almost six weeks in Morocco, in two trips, between October and December 2022”, explains Brandon Li. His objective was thus to “weave different landscapes, cultures and events, to create a film which celebrates the spirit power of the Moroccan people”. “It was also a big challenge for me, because it was the first time I tried to cover a whole country,” he said.

Brandon Li initially focused on two main points: Yassine, a rider known on social networks for riding his stallion bareback on the beaches of Essaouira, as well as the Fantasia (Tbourida), UNESCO intangible heritage. He also portrayed the tannery of Fez, the Jemaâ El Fna square in Marrakech, the nomads in Zagora, not to mention ancestral dishes such as couscous and tajine.

The director has also filmed historic Riads in the Ocher City, the Atlas Mountains, the Kasbah of Telouet, the dunes of Merzouga, the Toudra Gorge, the cities of Rabat, Fez and Casablanca, where the landscapes that have marked are those of the Hassan II mosque during low tide.

The last month of Brandon Li’s stay in Morocco coincided with the World Cup, where the national team recorded successive victories, up to fourth in the golden square. Not having planned to integrate football into his film, the director explains that he also wanted to capture these moments of collective joy, especially after the victory against Spain, and which accompanied a historic moment for Arab and African football.

Brandon Li has several films recognized around the world to his credit, relayed by National Geographic, the BBC and Vimeo Staff Pick, or even awarded at the Webby Award. He is the author of a dozen short films in different countries.
