The Sun reports that locations in the Moroccan city have been chosen for the filming of the long-awaited Gladiator sequel in May and filming locations already selected for Ouarzazate, Morocco.
Russell Crowe, who played the titular gladiator who was killed at the end of the film, has not yet signed onto the movie, however fans are of course hoping he returns for a flashback scene.
The search for actors to play the major roles has also already begun, adds The Sun.
‘This has been building since 2018 and for a long time it looked like it may never see the light of day,’ the source said.
Sir Ridley Scott, who directed the original 2000 epic and has been working on a follow-up to the film, previously confirmed the script was finished but he was trying to find time in his busy schedule to get the project going.
The original film garnered an impressive 11 Oscar nominations and five wins including Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell, whose character met an untimely death at the end of the film.
